In New Delhi the Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H. D. Kumaraswamy, chaired a high-level stakeholder consultation to accelerate the adoption and deployment of electric buses (e-buses) and electric trucks (e-trucks) across India. The meeting assembled fleet operators, aggregators, transport leaders, financial institutions, leasing companies and industry representatives engaged in the evolving electric mobility ecosystem. The consultation sought to map operational realities and identify barriers to faster adoption while fostering stronger collaboration between the government and private stakeholders.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Heavy Industries, including Secretary Kamran Rizvi and Additional Secretary Dr Hanif Qureshi, took part in the discussions and outlined elements of a future roadmap for heavy electric mobility. The Union Minister described e-buses as the future backbone of passenger transportation and indicated that e-trucks will transform logistics and freight movement. He also stressed that the government is committed to work hand in hand with operators and stakeholders to ensure a practical, inclusive and commercially sustainable transition.

Stakeholders provided extensive feedback on financing access, charging infrastructure, fleet deployment and operational viability, and offered practical suggestions for long term ecosystem support for electric commercial vehicles. The gathering was used to surface sectoral concerns and to discuss measures that could strengthen confidence in electric mobility adoption. The Ministry received the inputs as part of a proactive outreach to bridge policy and operational practice.

Participants welcomed the opportunity to engage directly with decision makers and said the discussions focused on creating a robust ecosystem for large scale deployment of e-buses and e-trucks across urban, inter-city and freight networks. The consultation was described by officials as an important step by the Ministry towards accelerating the transition to sustainable heavy mobility while actively engaging industry in shaping the next phase of transport and logistics transformation. The initiative was framed as aligned with the Prime Minister's vision for sustainability, operational efficiency and responsible governance.
