Maharashtra Awards Rs 1,620.6 mn PM Kusum Contract To Oswal Pumps

Oswal Pumps Ltd has secured Rs 1,620.6 million (Rs 162.06 crore) from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) under the PM Kusum B Scheme for the supply and installation of 6,869 off-grid solar photovoltaic water pumping systems across Maharashtra. The contract covers design, manufacturing, supply, transport, installation, testing and commissioning of three HP, five HP and seven point five HP solar water pumping systems intended to support sustainable irrigation and reduce farmers' dependence on conventional energy sources.

The scope also includes a comprehensive system warranty, repair and maintenance services, and a remote monitoring system (RMS) support package for five years. The company stated that execution is expected to be completed within 60 days from the issuance of the notice to proceed or work order. The procurement forms part of the central government's PM Kusum initiative to expand solar irrigation and off-grid clean energy solutions in agriculture.

Oswal Pumps said the order reinforces its position in India's growing renewable energy and solar irrigation sector and strengthens adoption of clean energy solutions in agriculture. Company leadership indicated alignment with the Government of India's vision of energy self-sufficiency in the agricultural sector and committed to delivering the project with high standards of quality, timeliness and farmer-centric service. Remote monitoring capability is expected to support operational reliability and facilitate proactive maintenance across dispersed rural installations.

Implementation of 6,869 off-grid systems is projected to improve access to irrigation in areas with limited grid connectivity and reduce reliance on diesel-driven pumps. The five year maintenance and monitoring package is designed to ensure system uptime and to provide performance data for evaluation and future scaling. The award could bolster market confidence for suppliers focused on solar photovoltaic water pumping solutions and accelerate deployment at scale.
