Mahindra To Open Skilling Centre For Nagpur Plant
The training programme will cover manufacturing skills including mechanical operations, welding and painting, and the workforce development effort will run alongside construction and commissioning of the facility. The company is expected to announce details of job opportunities, workforce requirements and the selection process as the project progresses. Curriculum will be aligned with industry standards and certification.
Mahindra will also draw on experienced employees from its existing manufacturing operations to support the new plant. Over the next two to three years eligible employees will be able to participate in a selection process that assesses technical capability, workplace behaviour, alignment with the company values and collaboration skills. Training pathways will include practical workshops and simulated shop floor tasks.
The greenfield facility, announced in February, involves a proposed investment of Rs 150 billion (bn) and is planned to become Mahindra & Mahindra's largest integrated manufacturing facility in India. Once fully operational it is expected to produce more than 0.5 million (mn) vehicles and 0.1 million (mn) tractors annually, while a 150 acre supplier park in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar will support the wider manufacturing ecosystem. The scale of investment is intended to attract suppliers and partners to the region.
The initiative places workforce development at the centre of Mahindra & Mahindra's expansion in Vidarbha and aims to create a pathway for local talent. The project is intended to build specialised capabilities for next generation automotive manufacturing and to embed employment opportunities across the region.
