The Mizoram government has launched a project to strengthen the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector with the aim of fostering inclusive economic growth and employment. The initiative is presented as a multi-faceted package designed to address capacity constraints, market access and infrastructure gaps that have hindered enterprise expansion. Officials described the programme as targeting enterprise formalisation and resilience while promoting value chains and local manufacturing.

The package includes measures to enhance skills development, provide technical assistance and facilitate access to affordable finance through linkages with lending institutions and government schemes. Support for cluster development, common facility centres and market intelligence is expected to improve competitiveness and reduce costs for small producers. The programme also envisages strengthened support for compliance and certification to help enterprises meet regulatory and market requirements. The design is said to be inclusive of micro enterprises and informal units to encourage formal registration and participation in mainstream markets.

Special emphasis is placed on supporting entrepreneurs in rural areas and women entrepreneurs by tailoring interventions to local needs and promoting participation in supply chains. Technology adoption and digital tools are to be encouraged through training and demonstration projects so that firms can access wider markets and improve productivity. Partnerships with industry groups, non-governmental organisations and academic institutions are planned to ensure sustained capacity building. The programme will emphasise long-term sustainability.

Implementation will reportedly be overseen by a designated agency with mechanisms for monitoring, evaluation and periodic review to track progress and outcomes. The approach aims to create sustainable livelihoods, enhance value addition and stimulate local investment while aligning with broader state development priorities. Stakeholders were urged to collaborate with the government to ensure effective rollout and long-term impact. Regular consultations with local industry and community leaders are expected to refine interventions and respond to emerging challenges.
