Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu (MoS) reviewed progress of major urban infrastructure projects at Sankalp Bhawan in New Delhi. Meetings covered the Gurugram Metro Connectivity Project, AMRUT 2.0 and CITIIS 2.0 with a focus on expediting implementation and resolving bottlenecks so benefits reach citizens. Senior Ministry officials and implementing agencies briefed the MoS on status and coordination challenges.

Sahu chaired a session on the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited plan to link Millennium City Centre with Cyber City and a spur to Dwarka Expressway ahead of the PRAGATI meeting. Officials outlined implementation progress, planning and agency coordination and identified land and clearance issues requiring timely resolution. The MoS urged close stakeholder coordination to sustain project momentum.

In the AMRUT 2.0 review the Ministry said AMRUT covers 500 cities with approximately 7.41 crore households as per 2025 data reported by those cities, equivalent to 74.1 million (mn) households. The Parliamentary Standing Committee used a broader dataset of about 4,900 cities covering 11.32 crore or 113.2 mn households, yielding different coverage estimates. The Ministry said reported AMRUT coverage is about 55 per cent and clarified that sewerage and on-site sanitation can coexist where scientifically planned.

Officials noted sewerage and septage projects make up around six point eight per cent of approved project numbers but account for significant investment, about Rs 71,133 crore or Rs 711.33 billion (bn) of the total approved cost of Rs 1,97,191 crore or Rs 1,971.91 bn. They said 394 sewerage projects worth about Rs 47,230 crore or Rs 472.3 bn are under implementation and on completion are expected to provide new sewerage connections to around 48.76 lakh or 4.876 mn households and upgrade systems for about 60.59 lakh or 6.059 mn households. Sahu reviewed CITIIS 2.0 city actions and Bilaspur solid waste measures and urged sustained monitoring, inter-agency coordination and timely decisions to translate projects into tangible improvements aligned with the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision.
