Navitas Solar Plans Rs. 100 bn Investment in Two States
The proposed investment will support capacity across solar ingots, wafers, cells and modules, along with battery energy storage systems. Navitas said the plan would broaden its presence across India’s clean energy sector. The company’s statement placed the manufacturing expansion, storage facility and renewable power projects within a single investment programme spread across the two states.
As part of the programme, Navitas is building a 2.4 gigawatt (GW) solar cell plant at Sisodara in Gujarat. The first phase, involving an investment of about Rs. 12 bn, is scheduled to begin operations by July 2027. The project will add cell-making capacity to the company’s existing solar module manufacturing operations and form part of its planned expansion in the state.
The company also plans to establish a 5 gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery storage facility in Vadodara. It has not provided a commissioning timeline for the facility in the information available. The storage project is included alongside manufacturing expansion and renewable generation in the proposed investment programme, giving the Gujarat plan a combination of production and energy-storage assets.
In Maharashtra, Navitas is developing solar parks with capacities of 200 MW and 25 MW. The two projects represent the company’s planned renewable power generation presence in the state, complementing the manufacturing and storage assets proposed for Gujarat. Navitas currently has annual solar module manufacturing capacity of 3 GW, which it said would be supplemented by the planned investments as the broader expansion progresses over the five-year period.
