PM Modi Launches Rs 40B Projects Boosting Purnea and Seemanchal

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development works worth around Rs 40 billion in Purnea, Bihar, highlighting the region’s rich cultural heritage and contributions to literature, spirituality, and social reform. The projects span railways, airports, electricity, water infrastructure, and housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, benefiting over 40,000 families.
Shri Modi inaugurated the terminal building of Purnea Airport, constructed in under five months, and flagged off the first commercial flight, placing the city firmly on India’s aviation map. He also flagged off one Vande Bharat, two Amrit Bharat, and one passenger train, while laying the foundation stone for the Vikramshila–Kataria rail line and inaugurating the Araria–Galgalia rail line. The PM further announced approvals for the Mokama–Munger high-speed corridor and the doubling of the Bhagalpur–Dumka–Rampurhat rail line.
In the energy sector, a 2,400 MW thermal power project at Pirpainti, Bhagalpur, was inaugurated, while the first phase of the Kosi-Mechi intra-state river link project was launched to expand irrigation and manage floods, benefiting thousands of hectares. The PM also announced the establishment of a National Makhana Board and a Rs 4.75 billion plan to boost the makhana sector.
Shri Modi emphasised the government’s commitment to housing for all, noting over forty million permanent homes built to date and plans for thirty million more. He stressed the focus on empowering women, releasing a Rs 5 billion Community Investment Fund to strengthen self-help groups, and easing GST on daily-use items ahead of the festive season.
Highlighting security concerns, the Prime Minister condemned illegal infiltration and called for stringent action to protect the region’s resources and safety. He underscored Bihar’s vital role in India’s development and strategic operations, citing contributions from Purnea’s sons during freedom struggles and Operation Sindoor.
The event saw the presence of Bihar Governor Shri Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar, Union Ministers, and other dignitaries. Shri Modi concluded by urging sustained momentum for Bihar’s comprehensive development.
