Secunderabad Station Redevelopment Reaches 64 Per Cent Completion

The redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme has reached 64 per cent completion, officials said. The project, estimated at Rs 7,147.3 million (Rs 7,147.3 mn), seeks to modernise the historic station to cope with rising passenger volumes. The station handles around 180 trains daily and records an average daily footfall of 0.15 mn passengers.

Work is being carried out in phases to ensure train operations and passenger services continue without major disruption. Planned features include architecturally distinctive station buildings, a two-level air concourse, extensive roof cover over platforms and a multi-level parking complex. Infrastructure provisions also cover 26 lifts, 32 escalators, dedicated skywalks for Metro connectivity, solar power and EV charging facilities along with advanced CCTV systems.

Several elements have been completed, including a temporary booking office, the Railway Protection Force building, the foot over bridge at the Kazipet end and the south-side approach road. Current construction activity is focused on the south-side basement and arrival area, north-side station building and the multi-level parking facility, while work continues on the air concourse and platform cover structures. Additional projects under way comprise the Hyderabad-end foot over bridge, travelator-equipped foot over bridges, underground water reservoirs and a sewage treatment plant, together with skywalk links to Secunderabad East and West Metro stations.

The redesign of the complex aims to enhance passenger convenience, accessibility and multimodal transport integration across the city. Authorities anticipate that the redeveloped station will function as a modern railway gateway for Telangana and a prominent transport landmark in Hyderabad. Progress to date highlights the emphasis on maintaining regular services while delivering upgraded passenger amenities and connectivity.
