Sleeping Pod Hotel Opens at Visakhapatnam Station

In a first for the East Coast Railway Zone, the Waltair Division has launched a state-of-the-art sleeping pod hotel at Visakhapatnam railway station. Located at Gate No. 3 on Platform No. 1, the facility offers modern, budget-friendly lodging for commuters, tourists, and medical travellers.

Developed under the Non-Fare Revenue model, the complex includes 88 ergonomically designed capsules — 73 single, 15 double, and 18 reserved for women. The women’s wing features private halls, dressing rooms, and dedicated modern bathrooms to ensure comfort, safety, and privacy.

Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra inaugurated the facility, citing growing demand for affordable accommodation near the station. The initiative, inspired by metro-city capsule hotels, provides a hygienic, secure stay option accessible to the public without the need for a platform ticket.

Amenities include 24/7 hot water, free Wi-Fi, clean washrooms, spacious showers, a snack bar, luggage storage, and a travel desk. Rates start at Rs 200 for a three-hour stay in a single pod, with 24-hour bookings priced at Rs 400. Double pods are available from Rs 300 to Rs 600.

Passenger feedback has been enthusiastic. Pilgrims, tourists, and business travellers have lauded the comfort and cleanliness. CCTV monitoring and standard safety protocols are in place, and online booking may be introduced based on demand.

This development positions Visakhapatnam as a pioneer in passenger-centric rail infrastructure and marks a significant step towards modernising India’s railway services.
