Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) have intensified fuel quality inspections across their nationwide retail networks after concerns about fuel quality circulated on social media. The three state-run retailers said the measures are intended to reassure consumers and uphold prescribed quality standards. The companies characterised fuel quality as a matter of utmost importance for their operations. They reported stepped-up surveillance and laboratory testing to address public concerns.

IOC reported that it conducted nearly 10,000 surprise inspections and more than 8,500 quality tests across its retail outlets over the past week. The group said it deployed hundreds of special inspection teams to verify compliance with prescribed quality standards and to detect adulteration or contamination. BPCL and HPCL said they had also intensified inspections and sampling at retail sites, routine testing points and along supply chains. Each company indicated that scientific testing and regular checks form part of a rigorous quality assurance system.

All three firms stated that they maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards adulteration, contamination and any violation of fuel quality norms. They said strict action is taken against dealers if irregularities are detected during inspections or established through customer complaints. The firms added that consumers can expect continued monitoring and enforcement at retail outlets.

The intensified checks reflect the companies' recognition of reputational and safety risks associated with substandard fuel and the need to maintain confidence in retail supplies. Officials emphasised that ongoing inspections and laboratory verification are intended to ensure compliance with standards and to safeguard vehicle performance and consumer interests. The retailers said they will continue surveillance and take corrective measures where necessary.
