SWITCH Mobility, the electric bus and light commercial vehicle arm of the Hinduja Group, has commenced the delivery of its flagship SWITCH EiV12 low-floor electric city buses to the Department of Transport, Delhi. The first batch was officially flagged off today, marking a milestone in Delhi’s journey toward becoming India’s leading electric bus city.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with Transport Minister Dr Pankaj Singh, Member of Parliament Manoj Tiwari, MLA Surya Prakash Khatri, senior officials from the Delhi Transport Department, Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), and representatives from SWITCH Mobility and Ohm Global Mobility.
Manufactured at SWITCH’s advanced Indian facility, the 12-meter EiV12 buses have been engineered to meet the demanding needs of Delhi’s urban transport network. Each bus offers:
- Seating for 39 passengers with a wheelchair ramp for accessibility.
- Safety and comfort features including CCTV cameras, panic buttons, and GPS tracking.
- A fire detection and suppression system (FDSS) and floor-mounted LFP batteries for enhanced safety and stability.
Equipped with SWITCH iON, the company’s proprietary intelligent telematics system, the buses provide real-time vehicle health monitoring, an Intelligent Transportation Management System (ITMS), and smart fleet management. The dual-gun charging interface enables faster charging while optimizing depot operations.
Commenting on the rollout, RG Venkataraman, Chief Commercial Officer of SWITCH Mobility, said, “We are delighted to commence delivery of our SWITCH EiV12 electric buses to Delhi, reinforcing the capital’s leadership in sustainable public transport. These advanced electric buses will strengthen Delhi’s transit ecosystem, reduce emissions, and improve air quality while offering commuters safe, comfortable, and eco-friendly mobility.”
The deployment forms part of SWITCH’s 950-bus order under the CESL tender and aligns with the Delhi Government’s vision of scaling up the country’s largest electric bus fleet. By integrating world-class technology with Indian manufacturing expertise, SWITCH Mobility continues to advance its “Make in India for the World” commitment.
