Transrail Lighting Gains 5 Per Cent After Rs. 4.12 bn Order Win

Shares of Transrail Lighting rose nearly 5 per cent in intraday trading on Tuesday after the transmission and distribution company announced new contracts worth Rs. 4.12 bn. The latest orders took its intake for the current financial year to Rs. 20.21 bn, including lowest-bidder orders worth Rs. 4.09 bn.

The contracts were secured primarily in the domestic transmission business and include reconductoring projects using high-temperature low-sag (HTLS) conductors. The orders will expand Transrail Lighting’s presence in projects that use carbon-core HTLS conductors manufactured in-house.

HTLS conductors can increase the power-carrying capacity of existing transmission lines without requiring entirely new infrastructure. They are designed to carry higher electrical loads at elevated temperatures while limiting thermal expansion and line sag, making them relevant as utilities seek to expand transmission capacity and improve grid reliability.

Transrail Lighting has manufacturing capacity of 184,400 t per annum for towers and 40,800 km per annum for conductors. The company said these capacities position it to benefit from demand across domestic and international transmission and distribution markets. Its managing director and chief executive officer, Randeep Narang, said sector demand and increased manufacturing capacity would support growth.

Narang also said the government’s approval of Phase III of the Green Energy Corridor would strengthen India’s power infrastructure and support the evacuation of 900 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power. The latest announcement is Transrail Lighting’s second significant order win in less than a week.

On September 30, the company announced contracts worth more than Rs. 5.74 bn, mainly from its domestic transmission and distribution business, sending its shares more than 10 per cent higher during that session. Those contracts also included reconductoring projects using carbon-core HTLS conductors produced at the company’s Silvassa facility, along with an engineering, procurement and construction contract for a transmission line from a large Indian private-sector developer. The wins come as India’s transmission investment gathers momentum through renewable energy additions, grid expansion and efforts to improve existing network efficiency.
