Tsuyo To Build EV Powertrain Plant And Test Track In Karnataka
The upcoming plant will produce next-generation heavy-duty EV powertrain systems for commercial mobility and industrial applications. The facility will manufacture electric motors across multiple topologies — including IPMSM, ACIM, SRM, SynRM and axial flux — as well as e-drives, e-axles, automatic transmissions, 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 integrated powertrains, and complete powertrain assemblies for heavy commercial EVs. A dedicated testing track will support field testing and validation for buses, trucks, mining vehicles and other heavy-duty EVs.
Manufacturing capabilities will range from 0.5 kW to 250 kW, with scalability up to 600 kW through Tsuyo’s partnerships with CETL and LvKON.
Vijay Kumar, Founder and CEO of Tsuyo Manufacturing, said the agreement represents a defining step for the company and India’s EV supply chain. He noted that Karnataka’s leadership in innovation makes it an ideal location for developing world-class, locally manufactured powertrain solutions that can support India’s shift to sustainable mobility.
The initiative is expected to significantly boost domestic manufacturing by reducing reliance on imported powertrain systems and strengthening India’s EV supply chain resilience. With capabilities spanning motors, e-axles, transmissions and integrated solutions, the facility will accelerate the growth of the heavy commercial EV market — including buses, trucks, mining vehicles and industrial machinery. The project will also generate substantial direct and indirect employment, supporting Karnataka’s industrial development objectives.
The integrated testing and validation track is expected to fast-track innovation by enabling rapid development and optimisation of powertrain technologies suited to India’s varied terrains and operational environments.
Minister Priyank Kharge welcomed Tsuyo’s expansion into Dharwad, stating that the investment aligns with Karnataka’s LEAP (Local Economy Accelerator Program) and reinforces the state’s position as a dynamic hub for EV innovation. He added that the project will create high-quality jobs and attract more EV manufacturers to the state.
