Telangana Power Generation Corporation Limited (TGGENCO) said unit three of the Yadadri Thermal Power Station successfully completed a commercial operation declaration on 13 May 2026 after operating continuously for 72 hours. The unit delivered an average of 811.99 MW against its rated capacity of 800 MW, exceeding the design output. The continuous run was supervised by officials from TGNPDCL, TGSPDCL and TGTRANSCO and the COD was declared in the presence of Dr S Harish, chairman and managing director of TGGENCO.

TGGENCO credited sustained efforts and follow up by deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikarmarka for the milestone and acknowledged the contributions of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and its own technical teams in commissioning the unit. The company described the achievement as the result of coordinated engineering, testing and operational validation leading to stable commercial output. The declaration follows completion of statutory and technical checks during the 72 hour trial.

Yadadri Thermal Power Station comprises five units each of 800 MW, giving a total installed capacity of 4000 MW at Veerlapalem village in Damaracherla mandal of Nalgonda district. The project was planned in two stages with two units in stage one and three units in stage two, and unit one, unit two and unit four were already in commercial service. Unit three now joins the grid and will contribute to regional supply and grid stability through its sustained output.

TGGENCO said the addition will bolster power availability for Telangana and support demand management during peak periods, while ongoing monitoring will ensure reliability. The company will undertake routine performance assessments to maintain operational parameters and meet developer commitments. The COD of unit three marks a key step in completing the Yadadri project and enhancing the state generation portfolio.
