Telangana Inaugurates 800 MW Unit at Yadadri Plant

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, along with Ministers N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Adluri Lakshman, inaugurated the 800 MW Unit 1 of the Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) near Damaracherla in Nalgonda district.
With this milestone, two out of five units of the 4,000 MW (5x800 MW) plant have now been commissioned. Unit 2 was brought online in December 2024. Developed by the Telangana Power Generation Corporation (TGGENCO), YTPS is set to become the largest thermal power project in India implemented by a public-sector entity.
The Ministers also laid the foundation stone for an integrated township to be developed on a 55-acre site at YTPS, with a project cost of Rs 9.7 billion.
Unit 3 is expected to be commissioned in October 2025, Unit 4 in December, and the full project is planned for dedication to the nation in January 2026. Vikramarka criticised the previous government for delays in securing environmental clearances, which pushed the project timeline back by two years and led to increased costs.
He further assured fair compensation to those who donated land for the YTPS and Pulichintala projects, and promised job opportunities for affected families.
