Johnson Controls (NYSE: JCI), the global leader in smart, healthy, safe and sustainable building solutions, is celebrating 140 years of innovation and global impact. Since its founding in 1885, the company has pioneered building advancements—from developing the first automatic sprinkler system to the first room thermostat—and today delivers a broad portfolio of HVAC systems, fire protection, and smart security solutions across the full building lifecycle.
As Singapore celebrates SG60, marking 60 years of independence, Johnson Controls congratulates the nation and highlights its ongoing partnership in supporting Singapore’s ambition to lead in smart and sustainable urban development. For over four decades, the company has played a key role in the city-state’s progress, deploying energy-efficient technologies and integrated systems across commercial buildings, public transport, healthcare, education, and high-tech manufacturing sectors.
“Johnson Controls has proudly contributed to Singapore’s transformation through lifecycle solutions that prioritise safety, connectivity and sustainability,” the company said. “Our collaborations with government agencies and businesses have demonstrated what’s possible in the journey towards a greener future.”
Today, more than 40 per cent of Singapore’s commercial buildings are equipped with Johnson Controls’ smart technologies. The company’s new regional headquarters at one-north, certified with BCA Green Mark Platinum for Healthier Workplaces, showcases its focus on wellbeing, sustainability and innovation. The facility houses the OpenBlue Innovation Centre—a living lab for R&D collaboration—and the Remote Operating Centre, which uses the OpenBlue Enterprise Manager platform to deliver real-time analytics, secure remote control, and operational support across Southeast Asia.
Recognised with the SkillsFuture Employer Awards (Gold), Johnson Controls continues to invest in talent development while maintaining a strong reputation for ethical business practices and pioneering innovation.
A flagship project in the heart of Singapore exemplifies Johnson Controls’ commitment. In one of the country’s largest mixed-use developments, the company implemented a retrofit using its Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) and Cooling-as-a-Service (CaaS) model. By integrating next-generation HVAC systems and digital tools, the project is expected to reduce approximately 88,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions over 15 years—the equivalent of powering over 41,000 households for one year—while delivering predictable operational costs and smarter energy use.
“This year marks a very special milestone for Johnson Controls, our 140th anniversary. And this anniversary is a chance for us to reflect on our journey. We are humbled by and grateful for those who came before us and feel the responsibility to forge ahead, continue solving our customers’ problems, and find new and better ways to advance technologies to make a difference,” said Joakim Weidemanis, CEO, Johnson Controls. “It’s no doubt the secret to our longstanding success is our talented teams around the world and I thank our employees, customers and partners for their role in helping us reach this exciting milestone. As we celebrate what we’ve accomplished, we’re also excited about the future. We feel like we have just gotten started. We are ready to accelerate our technology-based innovation and continuous improvement together with our customers to keep transforming our industry for the next 140 years.”
Peter Ferguson, General Manager, Southeast Asia, Johnson Controls, added, “As we look to the future, our commitment at Johnson Controls is clear: to lead in innovation and sustainability that powers smart urban growth. We see our role as not just participants but full partners who drive impactful change across Singapore and Southeast Asia. By investing in our people, embracing cutting-edge technologies, and fostering partnerships, we are creating ecosystems that support resilient cities and enable sustainable lifestyles. Our presence at one-north is a testament to this vision—a catalyst for innovation that aligns with Singapore’s trajectory towards a sustainable future.”
Looking ahead, Johnson Controls is further simplifying its portfolio to better serve customers throughout the building lifecycle. Supported by world-class service teams and digital technologies, including IoT integration, AI, machine learning and real-time analytics, the company continues to deliver smarter, safer and more sustainable buildings worldwide.
