JSW Infrastructure Secures Kolkata Port Project to Boost Container Handling & Eastern Presence
Mumbai, July 7, 2025:
JSW Infrastructure Ltd, India’s second-largest private port operator, has been awarded a significant project by the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority for the reconstruction and mechanization of Berths 7 and 8 at Netaji Subhas Dock, Kolkata.
The ₹740 crore project will be executed on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) basis under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and comes with a 30-year concession.

Strategic Move to Strengthen Container Business
This development aligns with JSW Infrastructure’s long-term strategy to:
45. Expand port terminal portfolio under India’s port privatization initiative
46. Enhance container capacity and operational efficiency on the eastern seaboard
47. Leverage steady cargo volumes in Kolkata during and after construction
Construction is expected to take two years, but operations will begin in parallel phases, enabling early revenue generation.

Total Container Handling Capacity Nears 1 Million TEUs
This project is a major boost to JSW’s growing container business. Currently:
48. JSW operates New Mangalore Container Terminal (capacity being upgraded to 0.35 million TEUs)
49. Post-Kolkata project, total capacity nears 1 million TEUs, marking the company’s emergence as a key container port operator across India’s coasts
