The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has granted environmental clearance for a Rs 1.36 billion luxury hotel to be developed by Adani Airport Holdings within the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport premises. The approval followed a detailed review by the Expert Appraisal Committee (Infra-2) in August. The project will occupy just over 8,000 sq m of land currently used as an open parking area, handed to the Adani Group under a long-term concession with the Airports Authority of India signed in 2021.

The planned five-storey, 23-metre-high hotel will offer 240 rooms, food-and-beverage facilities with 660 seats, and two basement levels for parking. With a built-up area of nearly 34,000 sq m, the development will incorporate treated water from an on-site sewage treatment plant, recycling around half of its daily requirement. Solid waste will be managed through organic converters and authorised recyclers. About 40 existing trees will be transplanted within the airport, while a green belt and energy-saving measures targeting a 20 per cent reduction in consumption are part of the design.

Authorities confirmed that the site lies outside forest and eco-sensitive areas and that no related court cases are pending. The clearance was processed centrally due to the temporary absence of Kerala’s State Environment Impact Assessment Authority. The project is expected to be completed in around three years, generating about 300 direct and 900 indirect jobs, and enhancing passenger amenities and local tourism.

The hotel forms part of Adani Group’s broader City Side Development plan for Thiruvananthapuram. The facility is also expected to serve international crew linked to cargo vessels using the Vizhinjam port, which recently received a dedicated immigration counter to support crew-change operations and future growth.
