Kempegowda International Airport has overtaken Mumbai Airport in domestic flight operations, marking a significant milestone for Bengaluru’s fast-growing aviation sector.

According to data released by the Airports Authority of India, Kempegowda Airport handled 20,819 domestic flights in October, exceeding Mumbai Airport’s 20,540. This places Bengaluru ahead of Mumbai in national domestic air-traffic rankings, a moment of pride for Karnataka and its capital.

Mumbai Airport has traditionally been regarded as India’s second-busiest hub owing to its high volume of international traffic. While Mumbai continues to lead in overall movements, Bengaluru’s rise in domestic operations highlights the city’s expanding role as a key aviation gateway.

Kempegowda Airport recorded 279 domestic flights per day in October, reflecting growing demand for connectivity driven by Bengaluru’s booming economy, rapid urbanisation and status as a major technology and industry centre.

Officials note that this development underscores both the airport’s robust infrastructure and the operational efficiency of its management team in handling increasing passenger volumes. For Karnataka, the achievement further strengthens Kempegowda Airport’s reputation as a symbol of progress.

With domestic travel on an upward trajectory, Bengaluru’s airport is expected to play an even more prominent role in shaping India’s aviation landscape, offering greater convenience to travellers and adding to the state’s prestige.
