Bengaluru Kempegowda Airport Signs MoU With Frankfurt Airport

Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (Kempegowda Airport) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Frankfurt Airport to strengthen cargo connectivity between South India and Europe. The agreement is designed to enhance air freight links, improve logistics efficiency and facilitate exports and imports across key sectors. The partnership is intended to create more reliable supply chains and to support the growth of time sensitive cargo movements. Stakeholders are expected to benefit from streamlined processes and improved coordination between the two hubs.

The collaboration will focus on cargo handling, cold chain solutions, documentation harmonisation and digital data exchange to reduce transit times. Both airports plan to share best practices in terminal operations and to explore coordinated schedules that enable efficient onward connections. The memorandum also envisages joint initiatives to attract dedicated freighter services and to improve the handling of high value and perishable consignments. Technical teams will assess infrastructure needs and propose targeted upgrades where necessary.

The arrangement is expected to benefit exporters of pharmaceuticals, fresh produce and electronics by offering more predictable transit windows and better temperature controlled transport options. Improved cargo connectivity could support the expansion of supply chains for small and medium sized enterprises and provide an impetus to air freight dependent manufacturing clusters in the region. Freight forwarders and logistics service providers will be engaged to align processes and to develop competitive pricing models. Training programmes are likely to be organised to build capacity in cargo management.

Representatives from both airports indicated that implementation will follow a phased approach with regular reviews to measure performance and to address operational challenges. Pilot corridors may be launched to test routing and customs facilitation measures before broader roll out. The pact is presented as part of a broader effort to deepen economic linkages and to unlock new trade opportunities between the regions.
