GMR Begins Duty-Free Operations at Delhi Airport

GMR Airports announced on Monday, 28 July, that it has commenced operations of duty-free shops at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), New Delhi — the country’s largest airport. The operations began at 00:00 hours on the same day.
The Delhi airport is operated by Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), a consortium led by the GMR Group. According to a regulatory filing, the move is expected to deliver strong benefits for the company, particularly through high-margin non-aeronautical revenue streams. Until now, duty-free operations at IGIA were managed by a different entity.
In August last year, GMR Airports was selected as the successful bidder to develop, manage, and operate the duty-free business at the airport. The company also manages duty-free outlets at Hyderabad, Goa, and Kannur airports.
Shares of GMR Airports were trading flat at Rs 90.04 during the afternoon session on the BSE.
