Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for a new terminal at Maharaja Agrasen Airport, Hisar, signalling a major push for regional air connectivity. The terminal is being developed at a cost exceeding Rs 4.1 billion and will feature modern passenger amenities, a cargo terminal, and an ATC tower. During the event, the Prime Minister also flagged off the inaugural Hisar–Ayodhya flight. The airport's redevelopment, valued at Rs 15 billion over five years, aligns with India’s aviation growth—airports have doubled from 74 to over 150 since 2014, with 600 regional routes launched under the UDAN scheme.

OLS Survey Commences for Rourkela Airport Upgrade
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has initiated an Obstacle Limitation Surfaces (OLS) survey at Rourkela Airport, paving the way for its upgrade to Code 4C standards. Originally set for 15–22 April, the survey began a day later and involves a team comprising a senior GIS analyst, GIS analyst, and associate consultant. The upgrade, requested by the Odisha Government, aims to support larger aircraft such as Airbus A320s and Boeing 737s. Plans include a 2,700-metre runway, CAT I ILS, and DVOR systems. The state will fund the survey and master plan, with land acquisition discussions already underway.

Airbus and Mahindra Partner to Manufacture H130 Helicopter Fuselages in India
Airbus has signed a landmark agreement with Mahindra Aerostructures to produce complete fuselages for the H130 helicopter in India—the first time Airbus will source helicopter fuselages from the country. Built at Mahindra’s Telangana facility, the structures will be delivered fully equipped to Airbus’s final assembly line in France. India Launches First Indigenous Trainer Aircraft HANSA-3(NG)
In a milestone for India's aviation self-reliance, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh officially launched HANSA-3(NG), the nation’s first indigenously developed trainer aircraft for Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) training. Developed by CSIR-NAL, the aircraft features a digital glass cockpit, fuel-efficient Rotax 912 iSc3 engine, and a range of 620 nautical miles. Its Transfer of Technology has been granted to Mumbai-based Pioneer Clean Amps Pvt. Ltd. With over 110 Letters of Intent from flying schools, the facility will initially produce 36 aircraft annually. The initiative aims to meet rising pilot training demands and bolster India’s aviation sector under the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.

Breakthrough Achieved in Odisha’s Longest Rail Tunnel
A major milestone has been reached in the Khurda Road–Balangir rail line with the breakthrough of Odisha’s longest railway tunnel—the 4,185-metre Adenigarh–Charichhak tunnel—under East Coast Railway. The tunnel, one of seven in the project and the final of four in Boudh district, faced delays due to loose soil but was completed safely over two years. A ceremony marked the breakthrough, attended by East Coast Railway officials and representatives from contractor Gayatri InfraRail Ltd. Now open at both ends, the tunnel will soon undergo concreting and track laying, promising improved east–west connectivity and regional development.

Mumbai Completes First Underground Metro Tunnel on Line 7A
In a significant boost to Mumbai’s urban mobility, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has achieved its first underground tunnel breakthrough on Metro Line 7A. The 3.4-km corridor, linking Andheri East to CSMIA Terminal 2, includes a 2.5-km underground stretch, with the tunnel breakthrough near Vile Parle. This marks MMRDA’s first underground metro initiative in the city. Executed using a Tunnel Boring Machine lowered 30 metres underground in 2023, the project overcomes complex geology and urban utilities. Once complete, Line 7A will enhance airport access and support Mumbai’s climate-resilient, congestion-free transport vision.

Namo Bharat Kicks Off Trial Run on Delhi–Meerut RRTS Stretch
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has commenced trial runs of the Namo Bharat train on the New Ashok Nagar–Sarai Kale Khan stretch of the Delhi–Meerut RRTS corridor. The first run tested signalling compatibility under manual control, with high-speed trials to follow. The 4.5-km section features a landmark 1.3-km bridge over the Yamuna River, parallel to the DND bridge, resting on 32 pillars. Sarai Kale Khan station—set to be the originating hub—is nearing completion, with operational escalators and lifts in place. NCRTC targets full corridor operations by year-end.

RVNL Bags Rs 1.43 Bn Electrification Deal in Tamil Nadu
Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) has secured Rs 1.43 billion contract from Southern Railway to upgrade the electric traction system in Tamil Nadu. The project will boost loading capacity to 3,000 metric tonnes by converting the Salem–Podanur and Irugur–Coimbatore–Podanur sections from a 1x25 kV to a more efficient 2x25 kV system. Set for completion in 24 months, the upgrade promises enhanced freight handling and operational efficiency. RVNL shares rose 1.8 per cent post-announcement, though the stock remains down 20 per cent in 2025, with the government retaining a 72.84 per cent stake.

Centre Clears Rs 250 Bn Amaravati–Hyderabad Expressway
The Central Government has approved the long-awaited Amaravati–Hyderabad Greenfield Expressway, a Rs 250 billion project promising direct, high-speed connectivity between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Spanning 220 km, this new six-lane corridor will bypass existing routes to bolster regional integration and economic growth. Fully funded by the Centre under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, the project will include land acquisition and is now in the DPR preparation stage. Telangana’s Chief Minister has proposed extending it to Machilipatnam port, with Andhra Pradesh backing the move. DRA Infracon to Deliver Guwahati Ring Road via BOT Toll Model
Ahmedabad-based Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon (DRA Infracon) has bagged the Rs 49 billion Guwahati Ring Road project in Assam, under the build, operate, and transfer (BOT) toll model—marking NHAI’s first fully privately-funded highway in nearly three years. Spanning 121 km, the project includes a 3-km bridge across the Brahmaputra. DRA Infracon will fund the construction without any grant from NHAI, recovering costs through tolls. The Assam government will cover 50% of land costs and offer tax exemptions. Kerala and Centre Sign Rs 8.17 Bn Loan Agreement for Vizhinjam Port
The Union government, a bank consortium, and Adani Ports have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide Rs 8.17 billion in Viability Gap Funding (VGF) for the Vizhinjam deep-sea port project. Under the agreement, Kerala will share 20 per cent of its port revenue with the Union government. Developed under a public-private partnership, the port is estimated to cost Rs 88.67 billion. While the Kerala government had hoped for grant funding, the Centre insisted on loan repayment through the Net Present Value (NPV) model. The first phase of the port is complete, with ongoing road and rail works expected to finish by 2028.
