Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh reviewed on April 13 the progress of the new integrated terminal building at Imphal International Airport (the airport) following a briefing by officials. The inspection took place as construction continued on site and officials indicated the project will enable round the clock operations on completion. The review included a site walk and assessment of civil works and systems integration.

Officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) briefed the Chief Minister on the current status and the construction is being undertaken by Yashnand Engineers and Contractors Pvt. Ltd. The Chief Minister provided assurance of full support from the state government to ensure timely completion and also reviewed the operational status of the existing air cargo terminal. The contractor outlined progress milestones and technical aspects related to passenger handling and systems integration.

Once completed, the new integrated terminal is expected to significantly enhance airport capacity and operational efficiency, enabling 24-hour operations compared with the present 12 to 14 hours a day. Passenger handling capacity is projected to increase from one point three nine mn to five mn per annum and parking infrastructure will expand from 100 vehicles to 1,089 vehicles. The upgrade is designed to reduce delays and accommodate future growth in demand. The changes are intended to support higher traffic volumes and improve connectivity for passengers and freight.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by senior state officials including the Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Additional Chief Secretary Transport Anurag Bajpai and other departmental leaders who inspected project elements with him. Earlier the Chief Minister visited the Paona Bazar area to review ongoing road development works and directed the Public Works Department to expedite execution while maintaining quality standards. Authorities said the combined works aim to strengthen the region's transport infrastructure and support economic activity. Officials noted that coordination with national aviation authorities would be required to align operations with regulatory requirements.
