The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has begun installing signboards in the Dogri language using the traditional Takri script at prominent chowks, intersections and public places across the city. The civic authority said the aim is to increase the visibility of Dogri and to reconnect younger people with the linguistic heritage of the Duggar heartland. The programme follows a request from the Siyana Nagrik Muddad Seva Sanstha and has been implemented under the guidance of the JMC commissioner.

Signboards have been installed at more than 24 prominent locations and 40 additional localities, including markets and residential colonies, have been identified for similar installation. Apart from all major chowks, boards are visible at Jammu Airport, the railway station, the bus stand and at several religious places. The JMC said that the letters on the signboards are written in the Takri style known locally as nayah dogra akhar.

The Siyana Nagrik Muddad Seva Sanstha contributed several signboards and requested that smaller boards be placed in lanes and neighbourhoods so that residents become familiar with the script. Officials said the JMC has incorporated Dogri in some public development projects, providing information in Dogri at the Waste to Wonder Park in Bhagwati Nagar among other sites. Organisers noted that the initiative has been appreciated by residents and civic bodies and that expansion to further parts of the city is being sought.

Representatives explained that promoting Dogri culture through visible signage will strengthen local identity and help preserve linguistic traditions for future generations. The organisation said it approached authorities about two and a half months ago with a proposal and suggested prominent locations including hotels and public buildings. Civic officials signalled that the pilot installations will be extended and that smaller Dogri signboards will be set up at additional important locations across Jammu.
