The Telangana government is advancing plans to expand aviation infrastructure across the state, with the proposed airport at Warangal set to enter the construction phase soon. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said that the foundation stone will be laid shortly and the state has transferred 953 acres of land to the Centre to enable the project. The handover of land is intended to clear procedural hurdles and allow central agencies to move forward with detailed design and approvals.

The project is expected to enhance access to northern Telangana and to support economic growth by improving transport links and reducing travel time for business and leisure travellers. Officials indicated that improved air connectivity could facilitate investment, tourism and cargo movements and that airport infrastructure is being planned with regional integration in mind. Planning aims to ensure the facility can accommodate future demand while connecting effectively with road and rail networks.

Parallel efforts are underway on an Adilabad airport, which officials said will be developed through a collaborative model involving the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the state government. A detailed master plan for Adilabad is in the pipeline and preliminary steps for land acquisition have commenced, reflecting coordinated federal and state engagement. The minister reviewed progress during a meeting with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and other stakeholders, with attention on timelines and interagency coordination for the three proposed airports.

Plans for a Kothagudem airport are being reassessed after the Civil Aviation Ministry determined that the originally identified site was unsuitable, prompting the state to commission a fresh feasibility study to identify an alternative location. Authorities said that the new study will examine technical, environmental and land suitability criteria and will seek inputs from local administrations and potential investors. Officials indicated that outcomes of the feasibility exercise will guide subsequent land planning and the scheduling of project milestones.
