Bengaluru to Get Smart Mobility Infrastructure Body

The Karnataka government is planning to set up Bengaluru Smart Mobility Infrastructure Ltd (BSMIL) to manage major infrastructure projects in the city, easing the workload of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Following the BBMP’s earlier relief from solid waste management duties, it will now also be freed from handling large-scale infrastructure initiatives. BSMIL will take charge of key projects like elevated roads, flyovers, and tunnel roads.

The state government is expected to introduce a Bill in the upcoming budget session to formalise this new entity, which will operate independently, similar to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). BSMIL will also absorb the responsibilities of Smart City Limited, which is set to be dissolved.
