The Delhi government has announced an integrated Rs. 1.25 bn upgrade covering roads and drainage in Burari. Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh inspected Burari Road and adjoining drainage works on Sunday and reviewed the improvement plan with senior officials.

The entire 7.1-km Burari Road corridor will be improved from Outer Ring Road through Baba Colony and Nathupura to Hiranki. A 3.2-km section covering Outer Ring Road-Baba Colony and Nathupura-Hiranki will be developed as a bituminous road, while the 3.9-km Baba Colony-Nathupura section will be built with Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) at an estimated cost of Rs. 390 mn.

The Nathupura-Hiranki section is estimated to cost Rs. 90 mn. A central verge will also be constructed along the full 7.1-km stretch as part of the comprehensive road improvement plan, which is intended to provide a continuous corridor rather than isolated repairs.

A 9.3-km drainage network estimated to cost Rs. 750 mn will be developed alongside the road works. The network will cover the Amrit Vihar-Bengali Colony stretch, where drains will be built on both sides of the road, and the Swaroop Nagar More-Burari Creek stretch, where existing drainage infrastructure will be improved to address storm-water accumulation and waterlogging.

The drainage work has already been tendered, while the road work is expected to be tendered within the next 10 days. Singh directed PWD officers to maintain coordination, timely execution and strict quality control, and to schedule the road and drainage works together to limit repeated disruption for residents. Until road reconstruction begins, water will be sprinkled regularly along affected stretches to control dust and provide relief to commuters and local residents.
