Cabinet Clears Four-Lane Access-Controlled NH-927 Between Barabanki And Bahraich

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister, has approved the construction of a four-lane access-controlled National Highway 927 between Barabanki and Bahraich covering 101.515 km in Uttar Pradesh on Hybrid Annuity Mode. The project has been approved at a cost of Rs. 69.6904 billion (bn) and is intended to address severe geometric deficiencies, sharp curves and congestion in built-up areas across the Barabanki and Bahraich districts. The scheme will be designed to bypass major habitations and to provide continuous service roads alongside the main carriageway.

Designed with continuous service roads and bypasses to avoid major habitations, the highway will raise average travel speeds and reduce travel time to about one hour while improving road safety and fuel efficiency. The upgrade is expected to lower vehicle operating costs and to enhance regional mobility and socio-economic development by facilitating faster movement of goods and passengers. The project is also expected to support agri-trade, tourism, cross-border commerce and regional investment across the corridor.

The corridor will connect three Economic Nodes, two Social Nodes and 12 Logistic Nodes and will integrate with the Rupaidiha Land Port and regional airports to strengthen multimodal connectivity. The upgrade will link to major national and state highways and to multiple railway stations, providing seamless access along the Lucknow-Rupaidiha corridor. Officials noted that the project will establish a strategic cross-border trade and transit corridor with Nepal via the Nepalganj border and will improve access to remote districts including Bahraich and Shravasti.

The project spans 101.515 km with 48.28 km of bypass and will link NH-27, NH-330N, NH-730 and state highways SH-13 and SH-30B while enhancing connectivity to airports at Lucknow and Shravasti and to multiple railway stations including Barabanki and Bahraich. It will provide access to one SEZ and two Mega Food Parks and to two aspirational districts, and it is expected to generate three point six five four million (mn) person-days of direct employment and four point three zero four million (mn) person-days of indirect employment. Annual average daily traffic for financial year 2028 is projected at 28,557 passenger car units for Package-1.
