The Delhi government has said it is expected to receive central funds totalling Rs 70 billion (bn) in the current fiscal for priority works including road and infrastructure development and cleaning of the Yamuna, officials said. Proposals worth Rs 10 billion (bn), chiefly for the Public Works Department and the Delhi Jal Board, have been submitted to the Centre for approval. The disclosures were made by a senior government official on Thursday.

Delhi government data shows allocations from specific sources include Rs 5.91 billion (bn) from the Central Road Fund, Rs 15 billion (bn) under the National Mission for Clean Ganga and Rs 1 billion (bn) for strengthening disaster management apparatus in the capital. In addition, the state expects Rs 39.31 billion (bn) for centrally sponsored schemes. The combination of these heads forms the bulk of the proposed central support.

The total central grant for 2026-27 is estimated at just over Rs 70 billion (bn), around 34 per cent higher than the revised estimates for the year, according to a senior government official. By contrast, the revised figures for 2025-26 show central grants were 56 per cent lower than the original budget estimates. Data also indicate that of Rs 60 billion (bn) indicated for capital projects, no receipts were reported at the revised estimate stage.

The Central Road Fund allocation for 2025-26 was budgeted at Rs 10 billion (bn) and revised to Rs 2.12 billion (bn), yet no amount was ultimately received, the figures show. For centrally sponsored schemes the budget estimate of Rs 41.28 billion (bn) was revised to Rs 22.08 billion (bn) and actual receipts stood at Rs 12.03 billion (bn), equal to 54.47 per cent of the revised estimate. The data underline a significant shortfall in central transfers that may affect delivery on capital projects and service schemes across the capital.
