Construction of seven bridges in Vijayawada to begin soon

With the district administration holding a review meeting, long-pending Gunadala flyover and double lane road works have again received a push.

Collector J Nivas ordered the irrigation and R&B officials to take significant measures to start constructing seven bridges on the Ryves canal, Eluru canal and Budameru rivulet within a fortnight.

During its election campaign, YSRCP had promised to build the Gunadala flyover which had been pending since 2009. They also promised to build seven bridges to reduce traffic at Devi Nagar, Nadala Madhyakatta, Karmel Nagar, Madhuranagar, Ramakrishna Puram, Gaddevari Chelu and other prime regions in Vijayawada central limits.

Bridges at Alluri Seetharama Raju statue, next to Singh Nagar flyover, are required since large traffic jams are taking place in that area every day. In January, the then Krishna district collector A Md Imtiaz had conducted a review and also laid the foundation stone but Covid-19 second wave blocked the plan.

Meanwhile, TDP and Janasena claimed that YSRCP failed to keep its promise on the construction of bridges and ignored the city development.

Malladi Vishnuvardhan, Vijayawada Central legislator, in a recent review meeting with the collector, had urged the authorities to begin construction work of bridges as early as possible.
