Construction of the final arm of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose flyover linking Goripalayam Junction and Sellur in Madurai is nearing completion and is expected to ease traffic congestion for motorists. The 700-metre-long and eight point five-metre-wide arm forms part of a Rs 2.138 billion (Rs 2.138 bn) project. The elevated road was opened to the public in February and the additional arm had been scheduled for completion in June, but slower than planned progress has forced vehicles to follow longer detours. Local officials and commuters report persistent delays on approach roads during peak hours.

Commuters travelling from Goripalayam to Arapalayam and Vilangudi currently use a riverside approach route that extends journey times to nearly 30 minutes at peak, according to regular users of the flyover. They expect that once the Goripalayam–Sellur arm becomes operational the travel time could fall to around five minutes, substantially shortening daily commutes. The prolonged construction has therefore become a source of frustration for those who depend on the corridor for work and errands. Traffic management has had to divert flows, which has added pressure on adjacent roads.

Residents who travel between Koodal Nagar and Tallakulam described the completion of the arm as likely to provide considerable relief and improve connectivity through Tamukkam and Sellur towards Arapalayam. They conveyed disappointment at the delay and flagged safety and congestion concerns caused by ongoing works, particularly during morning and evening peaks. Motorists highlighted that the new link would allow a direct route without entering congested town streets. Community groups have urged faster completion to restore normal traffic patterns.

A senior official at the State Highways Department indicated that major structural works have been finished and that the approach road towards Sellur and the Sellur side arm remain under construction. The official stated that remaining tasks are expected to be completed by the end of August and characterised the setback as a routine delay rather than evidence of a major problem. Contractors have been instructed to accelerate finishing works to minimise commuter inconvenience.
