Construction of the final arm of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose flyover linking Goripalayam Junction to Sellur in Madurai is nearing completion and is expected to relieve motorists. The arm measures 700 metres and is eight point five metres wide and forms part of a Rs 2,138 million (Rs 2,138 mn) project. The elevated road opened to the public in February and the additional arm had been due in June but slow progress has forced longer diversions.

A regular user reported that commuters from Goripalayam to Arapalayam or Vilangudi currently use the riverside approach road and that journeys take nearly thirty minutes during peak hours. The user indicated that once the Goripalayam–Sellur arm opens travel times could fall to around five minutes, easing congestion significantly. Another resident who commutes from Koodal Nagar to Tallakulam described completion as a major relief for daily travellers.

When operational, motorists from Goripalayam will be able to use the new route through Tamukkam, turn right towards Sellur and continue to Arapalayam without getting caught in heavy traffic. Commuters say the prolonged construction has increased journey times, fuel costs and frustration during peak hours. Public transport operators and traders along the corridor are likely to benefit from more predictable schedules and improved access once the arm is opened.

A senior official of the State Highways Department indicated that major works on the project have been completed but that the approach road towards Sellur and the arm on the Sellur side remain under construction. The official said the remaining works are expected to be completed by the end of August and described the delay as routine with no major underlying issue. Authorities said they are monitoring progress and have measures in place to expedite remaining activities and to minimise further disruption to traffic.
