A portion of the Gurugram-Sohna elevated highway near Subhash Chowk caved in again on Monday evening as repair works from a similar subsidence in May remained incomplete. A truck laden with construction material and heading to the section under repair passed over the area and caused one lane of the highway to be damaged, officials said. The incident occurred while repair crews were at the site.

The National Highways Authority of India described the occurrence as a routine event during construction activities, and it stated that repair work was under way. Repeated cave-ins on the elevated highway have prompted questions about durability and oversight. The corridor was built at a cost of around Rs 20 billion (Rs 20 bn).

On May six a section of the highway near Subhash Chowk had caved in when a rupture of a Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority pipeline was cited as the cause, leading to the closure of one lane while repairs continued. In a separate episode during recent heavy rains a wheel of a school bus became stuck in the affected area; fortunately there were no children on board at the time. Authorities have kept the lane closed as repair efforts progress.

NHAI Project Director Yogesh Tilak explained that roadwork was in progress at the site and that a truck carrying materials had arrived during construction, causing a section of road to sink at one spot. He described such situations as a possibility during construction activities and confirmed that repair works were under way. Local users and observers continue to closely monitor the progress of repairs amid concern over repeated incidents and repair timelines.
