NHAI Deploys Emergency Teams to Restore Andhra Highways

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has mobilised emergency response resources across national highway stretches in Andhra Pradesh to protect commuters and maintain traffic flow amid heavy rain and strong winds from Cyclone Arnab. The operations began after the cyclone affected the state from October 27, 2026.

NHAI deployed 32 route-patrolling vehicles, 31 ambulances, 35 cranes, 47 JCBs, 25 chain saws, 45 dumpers and 24 Quick Response Teams across affected areas between Eluru and Srikakulam. The field teams are coordinating with district administrations to clear obstructions and manage disruptions caused by the adverse weather.

Crews have cleared 149 fallen trees, including 75 on the Siddhantham-Anakapalli stretch and 74 across North Coastal Andhra. They also removed one fallen electric pole, helping restore movement along affected sections and reduce risks to road users.

Temporary patching work has begun on approximately 1,350 identified potholes. To address severe waterlogging at several locations on NH-16 and NH-516C, NHAI has deployed JCBs, dewatering pumps and manual labour, while newly cut earthen drains are being used to channel stagnant water into nearby water bodies.

NHAI is monitoring vulnerable sectors around the clock as restoration work continues. The authority has advised commuters to exercise caution, follow local traffic advisories and avoid parking or standing beneath trees and vulnerable roadside structures during the continuing emergency response.
