After traffic police issued about 70,000 challans for no-entry violations on the Dwarka and National Highway 48 between January and July, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) began installing no-entry and speed-reducing signages at entry and exit points of highways and elevated corridors in Gurugram. The measures aim to enforce restrictions on two- and three-wheelers, tractors, non-motorised vehicles and hydraulic trailers on access-controlled sections. Around 5,945 challans were recorded in August across the district.

NHAI officials said no-entry signboards have been erected at two highway openings for NH 48 and the Dwarka expressway and that road markings denoting slow down and accident-prone areas would be applied within a week on Gurugram-Sohna road. Similar measures will be rolled out at identified locations across the three highways based on crash data and field inspections. Monthly reviews had noted intermediate no-entry signages along the main carriageway, prompting directives to examine and rectify the issues.

An NHAI order from January 2024 under Section 35 of the Control of National Highways (Land and Traffic) Act, 2002 prohibits certain classes of vehicles from accessing National Highway 48 from Km 14+300 to Km 42+000 and the Dwarka expressway from Shiv Murti to Kherki Daula. The authority was directed to install four- to five-foot-high iron grills on the central median of Gurugram-Sohna road to deter unsafe pedestrian crossings, but officials reported that increasing grill height was unfeasible. Several safety signages have already been installed as part of rectification across 13 locations and remaining boards and markings are under process.

In August NHAI began fixing grills on internal and ground sections of Dwarka expressway stretches connecting to sector areas. At a general parade meeting on August 31, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Prateek Gehlot directed 202 traffic personnel to maintain heightened vigilance and strategic deployments to curb violations on NH 48, Dwarka, KMP and Delhi-Mumbai expressways. Authorities foresee that these measures will improve road safety.
