The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) has approved 32 major road infrastructure projects valued at Rs13.5 billion (bn) to accommodate the anticipated influx of millions of pilgrims for the 2027 Nashik Kumbh Mela. Implementation will be overseen by the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), which has set strict timelines for completion ahead of the March 2027 infrastructure deadline. The package covers upgrades to key transit corridors linking Nashik city, Trimbakeshwar and regional transport hubs.

White-topping and asphalting operations are central, with concrete white-topping scheduled for completion by December 2026 and asphalting to begin post-monsoon in October 2026. Approximately 50 per cent of approved routes will receive white-topping while the remainder will undergo widening and asphalt resurfacing. NMC has issued corridor-level targets and a timeline matrix to ensure coordinated execution across 32 road corridors.

To ensure material availability NMC has sought state intervention to secure an uninterrupted supply of 66,000 tonne (t) of bitumen from domestic refineries, a move aimed at mitigating earlier supply chain delays linked to West Asian geopolitical disruptions. An expert technical team from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-Bombay) carried out core-cut tests and quality evaluations across major stretches including Trimbak Road and the Garware–XLO corridor. Preliminary audit assessments confirmed that construction standards and concrete thickness conform to technical specifications, with further reviews covering stormwater drainage and traffic management.

A multi-tiered governance framework will integrate internal monitoring, Project Management Consultants (PMCs), third-party audits and independent technical verification by academic institutions to maintain quality and schedule adherence. The structure emphasises supply chain management, robust quality assurance and transparent oversight to support operational readiness for the mass movement expected in March 2027. Authorities intend to maintain progress reporting and contingency planning to address risks while meeting the public safety and mobility requirements of the event.
