The State government has given its approval for the construction of a new bridge at Vallakkadavu, spanning the Parvathy Puthanar. This development has significantly bolstered the proposal, which aims to address the deteriorating condition of the existing bridge that connects Thiruvananthapuram city with the coastal area and Thiruvananthapuram airport. The project to construct a new bridge has faced prolonged delays due to various reasons.

To ensure uninterrupted traffic flow during construction, the Public Works department erected a temporary bridge adjacent to the old one in 2022. Initially, an allocation of Rs 50 million was sanctioned for the construction of the new bridge. However, the authorities later revised the project, incorporating the expenses for land acquisition, resulting in a revised estimate of Rs 398 million.

In a statement, Public Works Minister P A Mohamed Riyas expressed the department's commitment to expedite the bridge construction process. Necessary measures will be taken to ensure the timely completion of this important infrastructure project.
