TN govt plans five flyovers to decongest Old Mahabalipuram road
Velu also said that the DMK government planned to construct bridges at five important road junctions between Madya Kailash and Siruseri in 2010, but the AIADMK governed the state for the next ten years and left the projects in the lurch without allocating sufficient funds.
A senior official, who was part of a review meeting the minister held on Friday from the state highway department, told the media that the estimated cost of the five bridges would be Rs 500 crore and that the officials were instructed to take up field inspections soon.
Minister Velu has ordered the IT Expressway Limited (ITEL) to rectify issues faced by public members while using toll plazas on OMR, Perungudi and ECR Link Road. ITEL is a special vehicle constituted for the purpose of developing an IT corridor in Chennai. In the past, several protests have taken place demanding that toll plazas in the city limits should be removed as they were inconvenient to users of the road.
Velu discussed the possible revenue and job losses in Friday's meeting with the authorities if the toll gates were removed.
Velu also directed his officials to speed up works after inspecting bridge works at East Coast Road, Railway bridge at Perungalathur, the one built across Buckingham Canal and TIDEL Park signal.
Later, he took a look at the Outer Ring Road, which was finished and inaugurated just before the elections in April, and wanted the patchwork to be completed on the stretch.
The official release said that the road has four toll plazas and was built at the cost of Rs 1,081 crore, and steps will be taken to ensure that there are no hassles for motorists using this stretch.
