Afcons Infrastructure Emerges as L1 Bidder for Lucknow Metro

Afcons Infrastructure has emerged as the lowest bidder for the design and construction of the underground section of the Lucknow Metro East-West Corridor, Phase 1B, in Uttar Pradesh. The contract, valued at Rs. 16.32 bn, covers the underground component of the project between Charbagh and Chowk.

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has announced that Phase 1B is expected to be completed in three years. The entire phase involves an investment of Rs. 58.01 bn, while the underground stretch will extend approximately 6.52 km between Charbagh metro station and Chowk metro station.

The Phase 1B package includes seven underground metro stations and associated civil works. The project will include both elevated and underground sections, with construction activities planned to progress simultaneously across the corridor.

According to the project plan, concurrent construction of the two sections is intended to support the commencement of metro services across the full corridor within the stipulated timeline. Afcons Infrastructure’s selection as the L1 bidder marks the latest procurement development for the underground works and places the company in line to undertake the package, subject to the completion of the applicable award and contracting processes.

The corridor forms part of the broader Lucknow Metro expansion programme being implemented by UPMRC. The underground works will require station construction and related civil engineering activities along the route connecting Charbagh with Chowk, while the elevated portion will be developed in parallel as part of the same phase.
