Afcons kicks off a tunnel boring device without a diaphragm wall

Afcons has started work on the Underground (UG-1) Project of the Ahmedabad Metro's Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) without Diaphragm Wall (D-wall).

Such a methodology has never before been applied to a metro project in India. The Istanbul Metro was built using this technique in the past.

In the UG-1 project of the Ahmedabad Metro, Afcons is building two underground stations, twin tunnels measuring a combined length of nearly 3.5 km, a cut and cover segment, as well as a ramp connecting elevated and underground parts.

The headwall construction came to a halt when the land for Kankaria Station was not handed over in a timely manner, among other reasons, and the first TBM, which was prepared for commissioning, could not be started.
