The Prime Minister flagged off the Delhi-Faridabad Metro Line that will allow hassle free travel for around 0.2 mn daily commuters between the national capital and the industrial hub in Haryana. The extension connects Badarpur to Escorts Mujesar in Faridabad and comprises nine stations. The corridor is elevated and aligned along either side of the Delhi-Mathura Road (NH-2). The Transport Ministry described the addition as improving connectivity across the National Capital Region.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has entered the construction phase of Phase 5A after awarding the Central Vista contract worth Rs 10,240 mn to Cemindia. The announcement follows clearance of funding arrangements for the Badarpur to Escorts Mujesar section, for which the total cost amounts to Rs 25,000 mn. The fiscal contributions included Rs 15,570 mn from the Haryana government, Rs 5,370 mn from the Centre and Rs 4,000 mn from the Delhi Metro.

The nine stations on the corridor are Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk and Escorts Mujesar and they are all elevated. Officials indicated that the corridor was constructed with a high level of indigenous content, estimated at ninety five per cent, and described the asset as providing a safe, affordable and sustainable transport facility. Planners said the line would reduce travel time and ease traffic congestion on the corridor.

The Haryana chief minister expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and indicated that the new link would propel the city to another level of progress through improved regional connectivity. He also stated that authorisation was expected for future connections linking Gurgaon with Faridabad by metro, which will be considered in planned expansion studies. The DMRC affirmed that work on Phase 5A will proceed in accordance with the project timeline and regulatory clearances.
