The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), has presented green building certification plaques to Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) for five stations on Mumbai Metro Line 3.

The certified stations under UGC Package No. 3 are Jagannath Shankarshet (Mumbai Central), Mahalaxmi, Science Centre, Acharya Atre Chowk and Worli.

The package was executed by Dogussoma, while GreenTree served as the green building consultant.

Mumbai Metro Line 3 runs along the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ corridor and comprises 27 stations, including 26 underground stations and one at-grade station. With the certification of the five stations, IGBC has certified 16 MMRCL stations in 2026.

The certified stations have been designed with an emphasis on resource efficiency, environmental performance and accessibility. All five stations are accessible from bus stops located within 100 metres and include dedicated drop-off zones to support last-mile connectivity and public transport integration.

The project also incorporates connectivity with BEST bus services, including CNG and electric buses operating on regular and feeder routes associated with Metro Line 3.

According to the project information shared by MMRCL, the Line 3 project has recorded an Economic Internal Rate of Return (EIRR) of 17.89 per cent and a Financial Internal Rate of Return (FIRR) of 3.2 per cent.

The certification is part of IGBC's wider efforts to promote green infrastructure across Mumbai's expanding public transport network and integrate sustainability measures into urban mobility projects.
