Kanpur Metro Tunnelling Completed as TBM Parvati Breaks Through
Following the breakthrough, preparatory activities have begun to ready the tunnel for track installation and systems integration. Engineers will undertake lining completion, grouting and inspections to ensure structural stability and alignment ahead of rails and signalling works. Utility relocations and station fit out are expected to proceed in sequence so that mechanical, electrical and communications systems can be integrated without undue delay.
Project managers indicated that the tunnelling campaign relied on detailed geotechnical studies and real time monitoring to mitigate settlement and protect surface structures. The TBM was adapted to local ground conditions and operated with support systems for muck removal and segment erection, enabling a continuous advance through variable strata. Safety protocols and community liaison were maintained throughout the drives to minimise disruption and coordinate access around work sites.
With tunnelling now complete, attention will shift to completing stations and testing systems ahead of commissioning. The milestone is expected to accelerate subsequent phases of construction and to support planned service delivery once integration and safety verification are finished. Stakeholders said coordination will continue to maintain schedules and to address any residual technical issues.
