MMRDA Plans Seven FOBs To Boost Metro Line Nine Access
Under Package one, the proposed FOBs are planned at locations along the Western Express Highway and Mira-Bhayandar Road, with span lengths of 145 metres at Dahisar Toll Naka, 87 metres at Miragaon, 92 metres at Kashigaon, 80 metres at Shivar Garden, 83 metres at Maxus Mall, 88 metres at Veg Sagar Hotel and 80 metres at Sai Baba Nagar. The bridges will therefore provide dedicated crossing points for pedestrians on two of the busiest thoroughfares in the area. These roads carry heavy traffic and range from 30 to 60 metres in width.
Each bridge will be three metres wide and include staircases, lifts for easier access and CCTV cameras to enhance security. The lifts are intended to assist senior citizens, people with disabilities and passengers carrying luggage in reaching metro stations more comfortably. By reducing reliance on signal-controlled pedestrian crossings, the infrastructure is expected to improve traffic flow at busy junctions and lower the risk of accidents.
The measures form part of MMRDA’s Multi-Modal Integration plan that seeks to strengthen links between metro services and other transport options and to improve last-mile connectivity, following similar facilities on Metro Lines 2A and seven. MMRDA has appointed Speco Infrastructure JV and PRS Infraprojects LLP to carry out the work and awarded a contract worth Rs 820.9 million (mn). The authority opened the first phase of the corridor on seven April 2026 and intends the pedestrian works to be in place before the corridor moves to full operations.
