Otis India, a subsidiary of Otis Worldwide Corporation, the global leader in elevator and escalator manufacturing, installation, and service — is contributing its engineering excellence to India’s first high-speed rail project, connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
With recent orders, the company will supply and install a total of 55 elevators and escalators across six stations and one depot, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient vertical transportation for passengers along the 508 km corridor.
The ambitious project, featuring the same Shinkansen (Bullet Train) technology that revolutionized Japan’s transport network, will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to just over two hours, with trains reaching speeds of up to 320 km/hr — saving nearly four hours for commuters.
Commenting on the milestone, Sebi Joseph, President, Otis India, said:
“Otis is proud to be part of India’s journey toward advanced transportation infrastructure. Having contributed to metro systems, airports, and commercial hubs across the country, we are now honored to play a key role in high-speed rail. Through our innovation, reliable products, and unwavering focus on passenger safety, we aim to make every step of the journey safe, smooth, and seamless.”
The Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor marks the first step in a nationwide high-speed rail network, set to connect more cities and regions in the future.
