Power Mech Projects has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for the operations and maintenance (O&M) contract of the Mumbai Monorail project, officials said. The contract was floated by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) with a tenure of 1,825 days, or five years.

MMRDA had invited bids for the O&M work of the Mumbai Monorail corridor from Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk to Chembur. Technical bids were opened on November 12, 2025, with four firms submitting bids for the contract. Following the technical evaluation conducted on January 1, 2026, two bidders were disqualified during the assessment process.

Subsequently, financial bids were opened for the technically qualified bidders. After the completion of the financial evaluation, Power Mech Projects was declared the lowest bidder for the contract, paving the way for it to take charge of the operations and maintenance of the monorail system, subject to the issuance of the final letter of award.

The scope of the O&M contract includes day-to-day operations, routine and preventive maintenance, and ensuring safe and efficient services on the Mumbai Monorail corridor. The project is aimed at improving reliability and passenger experience on the elevated transit system.

At present, Phase I of the Mumbai Monorail project is operational. The phase comprises a single corridor spanning 19.54 km, connecting Chembur, Wadala, and Jacob Circle. The monorail was envisioned as a feeder system to Mumbai’s suburban rail and metro networks, catering to areas with high traffic congestion and limited right of way.

Officials said the award of the O&M contract is expected to help stabilise operations and improve service quality on the corridor. Power Mech Projects, which has experience in infrastructure execution and maintenance, is expected to leverage its capabilities to ensure smoother functioning of the Mumbai Monorail system over the contract period.
