Rail Vikas Nigam bags Rs 3.5897 bn EPC order from East Central Railway

Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) has secured an engineering, procurement and construction contract worth Rs 3.5897 billion (bn) from East Central Railway for doubling works between Kundawa Chainpur and Raxaul. The contract covers a 41.04 km stretch as part of the Sitamarhi-Raxaul doubling project within the Samastipur Division. The company will execute the project under standard railway procedures and compliance.

The scope includes earthwork and blanketing, construction of minor and major bridges, station and other railway buildings, platform and level crossing works, and allied civil works designed for 25 tonne (t) Indian Railway Standard Loading. The work also comprises associated infrastructure such as signalling foundations and drainage provision required for line duplication. The contract is scheduled for completion within 1,095 days.

The order has been awarded by a domestic entity, with the company stating that the promoter, promoter group and group companies hold no interest in the awarding party and that the contract does not constitute a related-party transaction. RVNL is a Government of India enterprise engaged in rail infrastructure implementation, with the government holding 72.84 per cent stake as of March 2026. The company reported a consolidated net profit decline of 58.92 per cent to Rs 1.8707 bn on a 4.18 per cent increase in revenue to Rs 66.9591 bn in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026.

Shares of Rail Vikas Nigam fell 1.23 per cent to close at Rs 221.25 on the BSE following the release, reflecting market reaction to financial results and order flow. The project is expected to enhance capacity and connectivity in the region by creating an additional line and associated station infrastructure. The award aligns with the company mandate to construct rail assets nationwide and will be executed within the stipulated timeframe.
