South East Central Railway Deploys Misting Systems at Major Stations
The fine mist installations are operating on platforms at Bilaspur, Raipur, Durg, Rajnandgaon and Gondia to reduce ambient heat and improve comfort for those waiting for trains.
The misting systems disperse fine water sprays that lower the temperature and humidity in the immediate vicinity of platforms, creating a noticeably cooler environment during peak afternoon hours.
Continuous operation of the sprays is intended to moderate platform heat and assist vulnerable travellers, including older passengers and families.
SECR officials indicated that passenger comfort remains a priority and that similar arrangements have been rolled out in past seasons to maintain a safe and pleasant travel experience.
The deployment complements broader local measures as several states in northern, central and western India contend with a punishing heatwave, prompting regional administrations to implement emergency countermeasures.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) clarified that heat waves constitute periods of unusually high temperatures compared with normal expectations for a region and reported that temperatures in several areas have exceeded 40°C.
The IMD forecasted that heat wave conditions are very likely to occur during the next six days and listed pockets of elevated risk across Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Punjab, West Uttar Pradesh and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Railway authorities said they will continue to monitor weather updates and adjust passenger services as necessary.
