The proposed 170-km Tanakpur–Bageshwar rail line in Uttarakhand has been surveyed and is projected to cost Rs 486.9 billion, though traffic potential remains low, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
Responding to questions on extending rail connectivity to Bageshwar district, the Minister confirmed that the field survey has been completed and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared.
“As per the DPR, the cost of the project has been assessed at Rs 486.9 billion. However, the project shows low traffic projections,” Vaishnaw stated in his written reply.
The disclosure highlights both the significant investment required and the limited traffic expectations for the proposed new line, which has been under demand to improve connectivity in Uttarakhand’s hill districts.
