Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL) has announced that it has secured a Rs 24.81 billion contract from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for the design, manufacture, supply, and commissioning of 132 metro coaches and associated systems for Mumbai Metro Line 5.

The comprehensive contract also includes signalling for 24.9 kilometres of track, telecommunication systems across 16 stations, installation of platform screen doors, depot machinery, and five years of complete maintenance support, the company said in a statement.

The project spans both Phase 1 (Kapur Bawdi–Kasheli–Dhamankar Naka) and Phase 2 (Dhamankar Naka–Bhiwandi–Kalyan APMC) of the Line 5 corridor, which will serve as a key link in the expanding Mumbai Metro network.

This is Titagarh Rail Systems’ second major order for the Mumbai Metro, following its earlier contract for Line 6, further strengthening its position as one of India’s leading metro rolling stock manufacturers.

Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Umesh Chowdhary said, “This milestone highlights Titagarh’s growing capability in delivering end-to-end metro rail solutions, from design to commissioning.”

All manufacturing work for the project will take place at TRSL’s state-of-the-art Passenger Rail Systems facility in Uttarpara, near Kolkata, which specialises in advanced metro and passenger rail coach production.

The new order reinforces Titagarh’s strategic role in India’s expanding urban mobility infrastructure and underscores MMRDA’s continued focus on domestic manufacturing under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
